Run, Forrest, Run!
The Blessed Sacrament community gathered to run last weekend in the annual Bulldog 5K. In a time when there are so many concerns about lack of exercise and obesity among children, I have never been too worried about our students. We do make recess and PE an important part of our school days but we also have most of our students involved in active after school activities. The Bulldog 5K is the one time each year we get to exercise as a school community and he had over 300 people register to run this year and our usual raft of volunteers to man the intersections and help keep things organized. Thank you to all who participated by running or volunteering. Special thanks goes to Celine and Brendan Delaney who handled most of the heavy lifting this year and did an outstanding job.
This past Monday, I had the opportunity to join two groups of 8th graders at an awards ceremony and luncheon. For the first time ever, we participated in the Stock Market Game and our groups finished #1 and #2 for middle schoolers in the city of DC! Each team is ‘given’ $100,000 to invest and returns are tracked over a period of time. The team that has the highest valued portfolio at the end wins.
Mrs. Tobin and myself (and a couple of proud parents) joined First Place team: Grace Goodwin, Hope Hillegass, Mary Kate Hogan, Julia Baechli, Cassie Fredell. And Second Place team:Claire Duffy, Olivia Ernst, Rafy Carter, Lily Kevorkian, Hathaway Packard. Congratulations girls!
This year we did the Stock Market Game with the eighth grade. Next year we hope to open it to the middle school.
Enjoy your weekend!
